Who We Are

The Youth of Utah Advocacy Coalition (YUTAC) is an organization that empowers mentally ill young adults and youth who've been involved in system services. Many of the young advocates at YUTAC have been involved in foster care, the juvenile justice system, mental health treatment, and disability services, or  have experienced homelessness. Our primary goal of YUTAC is to foster the voices these young adults, and encourage them to have a leading role in shaping policy, ending stigma, community building, and creating sustainable change. .

Core Values

  • Youth and young adults should be given age-appropriate opportunities to make decisions about their continued care, including in foster care, mental health treatment, the juvenile justice system, and more.

  • Young adults with disabilities are entitled to their autonomy, respect, and being treated with dignity.
  • YUTAC centers the goals, strengths, and desires of young adults in every aspect of their treatment and wraparound care.

  • Through leadership training, community organizing, events, and policy change developed by YUTAC, young adults will advocate for themselves and others with lived experience in Utah.

  • YUTAC helps youth with lived experience develop and learn important life skills they need to succeed.

  • YUTAC creates a safe, empowering, and encouraging community for young adults.

  • YUTAC supports the latest standards in trauma-informed care and practices.

  • YUTAC exists to combat stigma associated with mental illness and system services.
